Otter
Prototype and frontend development for a fintech app
Meet Otter - not your average fintech startup.
With its claim "Buy Now. Pay Never" claim, you can pledge your investments and obtain a cash advance with no repayment schedule whilst your savings grow.

The world of finance has traditionally been complex and difficult for the average person to navigate, especially when it comes to financial education and onboarding for new financial services. The issue with traditional investments is that they lock your money for a long period of time, making it difficult to access in case of emergency.
Otter aims to solve this problem by allowing you to pledge your investments and obtain a cash advance.
Onboarding the user
One of the biggest challenges facing the Otter project was developing an easy-to-use onboarding system that could be used by people of all backgrounds and levels of expertise. This meant creating a user-friendly interface that could guide users through the process of opening and managing financial products, while also ensuring that they were meeting all necessary regulations and requirements.
To address this challenge, we focused on the user experience and user interface of the platform, making sure that it was easy to use and understand. How do you know if your product is easy to use? You test it with real users.

The are a total of 8 steps in order to complete the onboarding process and start investing:
- Identity verification
- Address verification
- Phone number verification
- Personal data
- KYC (Know Your Customer)
- Occupation
- Bank account
- MIFID Questionnaire
Every step can be completed in any order. The user can save the progress and continue later. This approach was chosen to avoid overwhelming the user with too many steps at once.
The Otter project was a huge success, with thousands of people signing up for the service within the first few months of launch. The user-friendly onboarding system helped to make finance more accessible and understandable for people of all backgrounds, while also helping to drive growth.
This project is a prime example of how a well-designed onboarding system and user interface makes or breaks a product. The platform and its usability is as important as the underlying financial products themselves.
The way people interact with the future is finance

Prototype vs Production
Designing a user interface is hard, implementing it is even harder. We strive to create pixel-perfect user interfaces, while dealing with a wide range of screens, browsers and technical limitations. For this project we used Vue.js: components allowed us to move fast, share logic and ensure an optimal experience across all devices.
We strive to create pixel-perfect user interfaces, while pushing the boundaries of what is possible with modern web technologies. Performance and security are key factors, especially when it comes to financial products.
Many thanks to Davide Bonissone and Matteo Romano at THUX for making this project possible.
